All About THE FOREIGNER

Samohi Theatre is excited to present the hilarious play The Foreigner by Larry Shue. This anti-racist play shines a spotlight on the difficulties of being a stranger in a strange land in comedically powerful ways! This wacky case of mistaken identity was a smash hit when it premiered on Broadway in 1984 with Matthew Broderick as the titular character. This two-act comedy by American playwright Larry Shue is a must-see show that has earned two Obie Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards as Best New American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production.

In this hilarious farce, Englishman Charlie Baker wants to escape his boring life and wandering wife by escaping to a fishing lodge in rural Georgia with his best friend. Painfully shy and awkward with conversation, he is mistaken for a foreigner who doesn't understand English. Convinced he can’t understand them, the guests begin to speak freely around him. Charlie accidentally overhears dangerous secrets AND discovers the person he was always meant to be.

Enjoy an evening of laughs at this charming comedy about the magic of kindness. It’s outrageous climax and heart-warming ending will leave you smiling all the way home.
